π India targets electric air taxis by 2028
India aims to see electric air taxis fly by 2028, with testing expected to speed up next year according to Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu. This technology could offer new mobility solutions for congested cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi. Sarla Aviation is developing a six-passenger eVTOL aircraft using seven electric motors, and the DGCA has approved its design. The minister emphasized that affordability, aided by localization, is crucial for commercial success. These air taxis could cut travel times to 20-30 minutes and aid medical evacuations. π
