business π India selling stake in LIC to raise billions
The Indian government plans to sell up to a 6.5% stake in Life Insurance Corporation of India at a 10% discount. This stake sale, involving a 2.5% base and an option for 4% more, aims to bring in up to $3.3 billion. The offer for sale, priced at 382 rupees per share, is scheduled to open on Tuesday and conclude on Wednesday. This move is necessary because the government must reduce its 96.5% ownership to 75% by 2032. LIC remains the top life insurer in India, boasting over 56% market share. π°
