business ⛽ India's new refiner aims for East and Northeast market dominance
Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), India's latest Maharatna company, aims to dominate fuel markets in Eastern and Northeastern India. As a subsidiary of Oil India Limited (OIL), it is known as the Assam Accord Refinery due to a 1985 agreement. Its expansion project, boosting capacity from 3 MMTPA to 9 MMTPA, has 87.1% progress and is set for commissioning by March 2027. This growth will allow NRL to cater to West Bengal and the eight Northeastern States with rising fuel demand. Furthermore, the company plans to potentially expand operations to neighboring countries once the expansion stabilizes.
