business π¬ India loosens sugar import rules amid price hike
India has eased duty-free raw sugar import rules, giving importers more flexibility to process sugar. This change was made by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) as sugar prices rose sharply before the festive season. The original deadline of October 31, 2026, has been replaced with a two-month window from the Bill of Entry date. This move aims to boost domestic supplies and curb hoarding amid low stocks. Bulk sugar stockholding limits have also been halved to 15 days from September 1. π¬
