The Karnataka High Court ruled that even highly qualified post-graduates who manage a household are considered homemakers for compensation purposes. This judgment clarified that homemaker status is gender-neutral and includes working professionals who care for family. The court specifically addressed the appeal by KSRTC regarding the claimant, Smt. Pampapal, a Master's in Biotechnology graduate. Furthermore, the court stated that medical insurance payouts cannot be deducted from Motor Vehicles Act compensation. Consequently, the High Court enhanced the total compensation awarded to the accident victim by Rs.1,96,800/-.
