health π¬ Gut immune system struggling with long Covid
New research suggests that long Covid patients have immune systems battling lingering coronavirus remnants. Scientists at UCSF found immune abnormalities in intestinal tissue from people with the condition. The study looked at 44 long Covid patients and 13 completely recovered individuals, with biopsies taken around two years post-infection. This points to an uncoordinated immune response where inflammation continues but clearance mechanisms are impaired. Future treatments may need to target both the lingering virus and restore the immune system's function.
