Scientists found a way to enhance nanoparticle-based cancer drug effectiveness that is usually flushed by the liver. This research, published in Nature Materials, found that changing the gut microbiome is as crucial as drug design. The study showed that using the antibiotic metronidazole altered gut bacteria, allowing drugs to stay in the body nearly double the time. This improved effectiveness was seen in tests for colon, breast, pancreatic, and melanoma cancers. Future treatments could combine nanoparticle chemo with targeted antibiotic courses. π¬
