tech 🤟 Google launches AI to understand sign language 🤟
Google DeepMind has released SL2T, an AI model designed to translate sign language into text for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. This multilingual model debuts on the Pixel 11 smartphone, featuring a new sign-to-text dictation on Gboard and Live Transcribe. SL2T was trained on over 100,000 hours of data across more than 50 languages, with ASL being the initial focus. This allows users to interact with their phone by signing instead of typing for tasks like emails and web searches. Google plans to expand the model to cover more sign languages and develop sign language generation features.
