tech π€ Google joins OpenROAD Initiative for open-source chip design
Google has formally become a principal member of the OpenROAD Initiative (ORI), Inc. in a major move to govern open-source chip design infrastructure. Aaron Cunningham from Google's Hardware Toolchains Team was elected to the Governing Board to guide strategic and technical aspects. The ORI supports an open-source EDA ecosystem, sustained by the U.S. National Science Foundation's POSE program. The OpenROAD Project offers an autonomous digital chip design toolchain completing RTL-to-GDSII in under 24 hours. Google's involvement focuses on ecosystem growth, workforce development, and technical enhancements. π»
