π Global activity levels stuck for two decades
Despite many countries setting targets for more exercise, global physical activity levels haven't risen over the last 20 years. This stagnation means the percentage of people meeting activity recommendations has not improved worldwide. Epidemiologist Andrea Ramirez Varela from UTHealth Houston School of Public Health studied this issue. The lack of progress is partly because inactivity has health risks similar to smoking. However, reversing this trend is not a major political focus right now.
