♻️ Glass bottles turning into wetland builders
A project started in 2020 to crush discarded bottles into sand has made big strides in coastal restoration. This initiative, run by Tulane University students, is based in New Orleans, Louisiana. By February 2026, the program successfully diverted over 12 million pounds of glass from landfills. This process transforms waste into material crucial for rebuilding Louisiana’s shrinking wetlands. Researchers are now testing how this recycled sand can best support new vegetation on vulnerable coastlines. 🌿
