health π¬ Fungus develops drug resistance to human medicine
A fungus causing severe pneumonia has shown resistance to mycophenolic acid (MPA) in a new study. Researchers analyzed 163 P. jirovecii samples from China, Denmark, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, and the U.S. The findings, published on September 19, 2026, showed 86% of transplant recipient samples carried a relevant mutation. This suggests the fungus evolved adaptations under the selective pressure of human-targeted drugs. The team now calls for reevaluating immunosuppressive strategies and infection control measures.π¬
