science π§ Fruit fly brain sparks new scent tech
Researchers developed a brain-inspired algorithm for energy-efficient scent classification. This was done by scientists at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) using fruit fly olfactory system data. The algorithm, named Spi-Fly, was tested on odor datasets on specific dates and showed good results. It excels in few-shot learning and continual learning, overcoming issues in standard training methods. This paves the way for creating practical artificial noses for various applications. π
