science π¬ Fossil shows how bugs took over land π
A new 324-million-year-old fossil, Chosha praecursor, was identified by researchers to reveal early insect evolution. This discovery was made by Prof. Chenyang Cai and Erik Tihelka in western Texas. The specimens date back to the Late Mississippian period, published on August 26th in Nature. Findings suggest early insects were amphibious, not instantly terrestrial, keeping aquatic traits. This helps fill an 80 million-year gap in understanding insect body plan changes.
