health π· First human swine flu variant found in China
China reported its first human case of swine influenza A(H1N2)v after a young boy showed severe respiratory issues. The infection was identified in a 2-year, 10-month-old boy in Kunming, Yunnan, after he was hospitalized. Genomic sequencing confirmed the reassortant virus shared high homology with swine strains circulating in China. Investigators suggested a pig in the rural compound was a plausible source of zoonotic exposure. This case highlights the need for continuous influenza surveillance and better human-animal health coordination. π·
