π¬ Droplets with steering wheel show chemistry power
Scientists have created unique two-phase droplets that can be controlled like tiny vehicles. Rakesh Narani, working at National Tsing Hua University, engineered these Janus droplets using hydrocarbon and fluorinated liquids. Magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles were placed at the boundary to create visible dividing lines between the two halves. By manipulating an external magnetic field, Narani can actively steer and drive these microscopic droplets. This technology shows potential for future uses in sensing, catalysis, and drug delivery applications.
