tech πΎ Drive for Desktop stops photo backup, heads up
Google Drive for desktop officially ended its direct photo and video backup feature to Google Photos starting August 10, 2026. This change affects users in general across the platform, requiring them to switch methods for new uploads. Previously, Drive for desktop automatically synced folders from PCs and Macs, but now manual or in-app uploads are needed. Existing photos already backed up to Google Photos remain safe and will not be deleted by this update. Users should now use the dedicated 'Back up folders' option within Google Photos instead. πΈ
