health ๐ฆ DR Congo Ebola cases hit 5,500+ as WHO warns
Confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have surpassed 5,500, with over 2,600 deaths according to government figures. This outbreak has spread across 57 health zones in provinces like Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu. The latest tally through Saturday recorded 5,514 cases and 2,642 deaths, leading to a 47.9 per cent fatality rate. The WHO declared the epidemic has reached a 'defining moment' because transmission is outpacing control efforts. Stronger cooperation and scaled-up action are now needed to bring the outbreak under control.
