health π₯ Doctors flag high costs for TN gold ring scheme
The Tamil Nadu government allocated βΉ750.83 crore for one-gram gold rings for 4,41,667 newborn deliveries under the Thaimaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam. The Service Doctors and Post Graduates Association (SDPGA) questioned the administrative burden of the proposed hub-and-spoke model in government hospitals. This district-level costing estimated the annual cost to be βΉ84.18 lakh, which is nearly three times the prescribed 0.66% administrative norm. SDPGA suggested using bank channels for disbursement to significantly reduce overheads and focus on patient care. This bank model has been successful before with the Revenue Department's Thalikku Thangam Scheme. π°
