science 𧬠DNA is leveling up insect research in Pakistan
DNA detectives are revolutionizing insect research by using genomic databases and AI in Pakistan. This national survey examined material from 1,858 sites between 2010 and 2019, generating 50,592 barcode records. Only 21 percent of these BINs matched known species, highlighting major knowledge gaps in South Asia. Bioinformatics is crucial for distinguishing visually similar pests like whiteflies, even if they look alike. Future work needs lab and field tests to confirm genetic findings regarding pesticide resistance. π¬
