science π Designing space homes for mental health
Engineers at MIT are researching how to design space habitats that support crew mental wellbeing during long missions. This work involves studying connections between design features and behavioral health outcomes like stress and isolation. The research, published in npj Microgravity, synthesized extensive literature and expert interviews on this topic. They created an interactive platform and a risk mapping format similar to NASA's DAGs for this purpose. This model can be applied to other isolated environments, not just space travel. π§βπ
