Researchers discovered the structure of a heat-stable enzyme that converts nitrogen gas to ammonia. This breakthrough was achieved by scientists at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology and Institut de Biologie Structurale. The enzyme, nitrogenase, from the deep-sea archaeon Methanocaldococcus infernus works above 90 Β°C.
