india π CMRL pushes ahead with 28km metro extension
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is moving forward with a 27.9-km extension from Poonamallee to Sunguvarchatram. This development is happening despite the state government dropping the planned Parandur airport project. The phase, costing Rs 8,779 crore and featuring 14 elevated stations, meets current and future demand in the western suburbs. The state government has already approved Rs 2,126 crore for initial preparatory tasks like land acquisition. Future phases, including the Sunguvarchatram to Parandur stretch, will be reviewed based on actual traffic volume.
