india π Centre passes buck on tribal displacement in MP
The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs admitted receiving displacement complaints over the Ken-Betwa project in Madhya Pradesh. They stated they forwarded these issues to the Madhya Pradesh government and district authorities, as the state is responsible for implementing the forest rights law. The complaints involve forced evictions and irregular compensation processes in Chhatarpur district. The Ministry asserted that states must comply with the Forest Rights Act provisions regarding claimant eviction. Authorities cited a decade-old NWDA estimate for the families affected by the project's Phase-I.
