science ๐ฌ Capillaries can regrow heart's bypass arteries
Chinese researchers found that capillary vessels can develop into coronary collateral arteries, which act as a natural blood bypass system. This discovery was published in the journal Science, involving a team from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The study revealed that these new arteries primarily arise from capillary endothelial cells after cardiac injury. This finding offers a fresh perspective on heart repair and potential new treatments for ischemic heart disease. The team also showed that activating VEGF with modified mRNA can boost functional collateral artery formation. ๐
