A new study published in Nature Medicine developed 'tissue clocks' using deep learning on 25,712 histopathology slides from nearly 1,000 people. Researchers found these clocks predict biological age based on organ structure, showing links to telomere shortening and diseases. This method integrates tissue imaging with gene expression data to predict age gaps from blood samples. The technique was tested on patients with Alzheimer’s, stroke, and Crohn’s disease, detecting decline early. This paves the way for personalized medicine to slow organ damage before chronic illness appears.
