health ๐ฌ Breast cancer classification needs a glow-up
A new study challenges the simple estrogen receptor-positive or negative classification for breast cancer. Researchers at Karolinska Institutet analyzed data from over 75,000 women in Sweden between 2007 and 2023. They divided patients into five groups based on estrogen receptor expression percentages, comparing tumor characteristics and survival rates. The findings suggest that tumors with low to moderate estrogen receptor levels may need combination therapies. Further studies are necessary to translate these important observational results into clinical practice. ๐ฌ
