π¬ Brain protein organizes itself during memory formation
Researchers discovered how the key brain protein CaMKIIΞ± organizes into chain-like structures during memory creation. This study was conducted by teams at various institutes, including Kanazawa University and Kyoto University. Observations were made using high-speed atomic force microscopy, revealing assembly under crowded conditions. Activation causes the protein to change shape and grow larger chains, which supports memory strengthening. This organization mechanism could shed light on neurological disorders linked to mutations like P212L.
