india ๐ Bombay HC drops taxi drivers' Marathi language PIL
The Bombay High Court disposed of a PIL challenging the mandatory Marathi language rule for taxi and rickshaw drivers. The petition was filed by four app-based drivers in Maharashtra against the State government's notification. This was after the State extended the deadline to learn Marathi by one year, effective from August 28. The drivers argued the rule violated their fundamental rights under Articles 14, 19, and 21. Because of the state's extension, the court decided the matter did not require further judicial intervention. ๐
