Scientists found that changes in human blood chemistry mirror the upward trend in atmospheric CO2 levels. This research was conducted by teams from The Kids Research Institute Australia, Curtin University, and ANU using U.S. population health data from 1999 to 2020. Since 1999, average serum bicarbonate has risen by about 7 percent while calcium and phosphorus levels decreased. Experts suggest these shifts indicate the body is adjusting to changing atmospheric composition over time. If trends continue, bicarbonate levels could reach the upper healthy limit within 50 years, making this a public health concern.
