science π Black holes might be cosmic planet factories
Researchers found a new way black holes can create giant planets instead of just sucking things in. Wladimir Lyra's team at New Mexico State University discovered this 'AGN Channel' mechanism. The study, published in the June Astrophysical Journal, detailed how dust clumps in accretion disks around supermassive black holes. These protoplanets can grow massive enough to potentially ignite nuclear fusion, forming stars bottom-up. Future observations using NASA's Roman Space Telescope could help prove this theory. πͺ
