โจ BIS scaling up silver hallmarking tests as gold prices spike
The Bureau of Indian Standards is ramping up silver jewellery testing due to shifting buyer demand away from expensive gold. This initiative will see the national expansion of silver referral and assay laboratories over the next two years. Hallmarked silver articles rose to 5.9 million in the 2025-26 fiscal year from 3.2 million in 2024-25. This expansion supports consumer confidence, building on gold hallmarking's success. BIS is also piloting AI and robotics to boost testing efficiency across its labs. ๐ง
