Schoolchildren in Bihar are using an iron pontoon tied to a rope to cross the flooded Muhane River to reach their classes. The kids are from Ekdanga panchayat in Barh district, attending a government primary school across the water. Floodwater from the Ganga has caused the river level to rise significantly, making the journey dangerous. The teacher-in-charge noted the risk, as many parents work as laborers and cannot accompany them. Officials have mentioned a safer, though longer, two-kilometer road route exists.
