business ⚡ Bangladesh's power issue: capacity vs. fuel security
Bangladesh's power sector is facing long-term vulnerabilities despite efforts to increase generation capacity. Estimates show capacity charges could cost the sector over Tk 48,000 crore this fiscal year. Dependence on imported primary energy has surged from 47.7 percent to 62.5 percent in just four years. Earlier this month, 62 units faced fuel shortages, with a daily shortfall nearing 1,500MW. The future focus must shift to securing reliable fuel sources for energy production.
