π¬ Bacteria making living computer chips at MIT
MIT engineers have successfully created living circuit boards using engineered bacteria instead of traditional wires. The team, led by Christopher Voigt, used Pantoea agglomerans to mimic transistors that process chemical signals. This research, published in Nature Chemical Biology, demonstrated basic logic functions using five bacterial strains. These biological circuits could potentially be used to give plants built-in sensing and response systems for agriculture. While slow, these systems offer a new way to integrate computation directly into biological processes. π¬
