science π Australia's red soil could unlock massive clean energy
Researchers at Edith Cowan University (ECU) have found a significant low-emission energy source beneath Western Australia. This discovery focuses on magnetite found in iron ore deposits across the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The study observed that magnetite releases hydrogen gas when reacted with hot water under deep underground conditions. This could lead to a new domestic energy source and a major hydrogen export industry for Australia. The research, published in the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, is moving the concept toward real-world geological application. π
