Edith Cowan University researchers identified that magnetite, located under the state's red soil, produces hydrogen gas when reacting with hot underground water. The study replicated deep earth conditions by testing magnetite samples at 200 degrees Celsius under high pressure for 60 days. The findings suggest injecting a solution into banded iron formations could boost hydrogen output significantly.
