β¨ Astronomers witness massive star's explosive end
Astronomers have successfully observed the entire explosive death of an enormous star, leading to new understandings of these violent events. This observation started in March when Chinaβs Einstein Probe detected an X-ray flare from the collapsing core. The star, estimated to be 30 times the Sun's mass, was located about 500-million light-years away. The explosion was a broad-lined Type Ic supernova, which appears to have left behind a black hole. Future study of these extreme events will help astrophysicists understand physics in extreme environments. π
