⚖️ AP Assembly passes water pollution amendment act
The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly adopted the Central Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Amendment Act, 2024 on Thursday. This move aims to improve governance and ease of doing business across the state. The Act replaces strict criminal penalties for minor violations with financial penalties ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹15 lakh. Individuals can appeal decisions to the National Green Tribunal within 60 days after paying 10% of the fine. Serious offenses, however, still carry criminal charges, including potential imprisonment. ⚖️
