π©Ί Antiseizure med linked to higher clot risk with DOACs
New data suggests levetiracetam might increase the risk of thromboembolic events when used with DOACs. This was found in a retrospective study involving over 9000 adults with epilepsy across 165 healthcare organizations. The study compared levetiracetam against lamotrigine or lacosamide, finding a nearly twofold higher risk for the former. This prompts caution since levetiracetam was previously thought to have low drug interaction potential. Clinicians should actively review ASM choice to manage anticoagulation safety going forward. π©Ί
