science 🔬 AI tissue clocks reveal how fast organs are aging
Scientists in Austria developed a new AI method to estimate the biological age of individual human organs using histological images. The research team at CeMM analyzed over 25,000 high-resolution images across 40 different tissue types. These 'tissue clocks' achieved a mean error of 4.9 years, surpassing current DNA-based age estimates. The study showed that aging isn't uniform, with organs like the lungs showing signs of aging between 20 and 40. This approach could eventually lead to blood tests monitoring organ-specific aging and disease progression. 🧬
