science ๐ฌ AI reads cancer slides to predict tumor types ๐ฌ
A single AI model successfully predicted 32 solid cancer tumor types from routine tissue slides. This system was trained using over 11,000 tumors and utilized standard H&E-stained slides. The research achieved an AUROC of 0.766 on an independent validation set of 1,729 slides. This approach can help hospitals prioritize patients needing genetic testing, especially when molecular testing is limited. The AI is meant to complement, not replace, current molecular diagnostic procedures.
