π 454-million-year-old volcano found under England
A massive supervolcano erupted beneath what is now eastern England over 454 million years ago. Scientists from the British Geological Survey and the University of Oslo found evidence buried under The Wash in Norfolk and Lincolnshire. The tiny zircon crystals dated the eruption to approximately 454.4 million years ago. This ancient event may have created the Kinnekulle ash layer found across Norway, Sweden, and other Baltic nations. The research suggests the ash plume crossed the Tornquist Sea before settling in Scandinavia. π
