science π 1.3M names hitch a ride on Roman Telescope
Over 1.3 million people have contributed their names to travel into space aboard NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. These names will journey to a spot nearly 15 lakh km from Earth in under a month. The campaign closed on July 12, and the names are stored on an SD card attached to the observatory. The telescope aims to study dark energy and exoplanets with a view 100 times larger than Hubble's. The launch is scheduled for August 30, 2026, from Kennedy Space Center.
